yesterday evening we had C's parent-teacher conference. i really wasn't expecting to hear anything earth shattering, i knew that academically he's right on if not better than on target. C's teacher, mistie has been really good for him this year. i've been praying for C's teachers since he was born, and it's always kinda neat to see your prayers answered.
anyway, mistie teared up TWICE telling us about how much she's enjoyed cman this year. she really spent a lot of time bragging on him. keith said she was biased- but isn't that what you want for your child? i've spent all of this time praying for my kids to have favor on their lives and now his teacher really likes him and i'm supposed to consider that a bias? nope :) and really, keith was touched too by all of the nice things she said. he just didn't believe that caleb was a "dream student". we'll take it though! here are just a few of the things that we talked about:
- caleb's one of the few boys in his class that can catch a ball. (yep daddy, i think all that ball practice last year paid off)
- he colors neatly, cuts well, holds his pencil correctly and has good handwriting
- he likes puzzles and thinking games and will spend a lot of time working on them
- he knows his alphabet/sounds, counting, one to one correspondence- all that stuff
- he takes up for himself
- he shares
- he likes to listen to stories and to sing
- and finally, our favorite- there's a little boy in his class who is a little different. he doesn't necessarily qualify as special needs- but there are some issues. mistie said caleb is the only boy who's reached out to him and made a point to play with him. she said this little boy is loving school because of caleb. y'all, seriously- my heart could just burst. how precious is that?
the only thing we really needed to work on is learning his address/phone number, and tying his shoe. yeesh, can i just keep buying the velcro kind?
aaaand now for the reality check.
i have to register caleb for kindergarten february 10th. (heart in stomach). how can it be here already? i was talking to a teacher friend on wednesday and she casually mentioned this date and i really felt myself get a little sick.
i know he needs to go, i know he's ready- but i'm not sure that i am. how did it get here so stinkin' soon? he was a baby yesterday and now i'm ready to send him to school?
i remember when i taught kindergarten and there would be mothers crying in the hallway after dropping their kids off the first day. i didn't get it. now i'm going to be a mother crying in the hallway! well, hopefully not but i feel like i might cry a little during registration. i asked ashley the other day if she would go with me and hold my hand. she said she would, i think she gets it a little. meredith will be there year after next.
aaaand now for the 2nd reality check.
i booked caleb's FIFTH birthday party last night. be near dear Jesus. how can he be
5? i seriously felt a little sick (again) while booking his birthday party. we were actually at a birthday party (at pump it up, so i just went ahead and booked it while we were there) with some friends who had not seen C in a while and they just kept saying- "he looks so different! he looks so big! he looks so grown up!"
y'all, shut it already. my heart just can't take it. i keep telling him i'm going to put a brick on his head so he'll stop growing.
the reality is that C's doing exactly what i want him to do- he's growing in wisdom and love and growing up physically and becoming a little person- but dear Lord, it's
bittersweet. i'm sure by the time april rolls around i'll be ready to celebrate- but again,
TIME, can you
PLEASE for the love of all that's decent and holy
SLOW DOWN!
